Surface Medical Inc. (“SMI”) announced today the launch of CleanPatch in the US market through a network of leading specialty distributors.

It is well known in the healthcare community that hospital beds, stretchers and other high-touch surfaces are prone to damage, and have been shown to harbor pathogens that contribute to Healthcare-Acquired Infections. To date, there has been a lack of cost-effective and clinically validated solutions to this problem, with surgical or duct tape being tried unsuccessfully in many facilities. Inspired by a Nurse, SMI developed and validated CleanPatch: a first-in-class Medical Surface Repair Patch for hospital beds and stretchers that restores damaged mattresses to an intact and hygienic state.

Having completed over 18 months of testing, including a clinical study in a hospital last year, patent-pending CleanPatch successfully launched in the Canadian market in mid-2013, and already has over 60 facilities implementing the product as part of their preventative maintenance repair solution on damaged mattresses, stretchers and other surfaces.

“We have been amazed at the interest and enthusiasm in CleanPatch from healthcare facilities across Canada since launching in mid-2013” comments Tony Abboud, VP Business Development at Surface Medical. “We are excited to be working with these regional Distributors, and our Master Distributor Associated Health Systems, as we bring this novel and needed innovation to the US market in 2014.”
