Surface Medical Awarded HealthPRO Contract for CleanPatch™ to Expand the Delivery of Innovative Healthcare Technology Cost Savings to HealthPRO Members

October 1, 2014 - Surface Medical Inc. (SMI) is pleased to announce that its CleanPatch™ product line has been awarded a HealthPRO single source contract for Medical Surface Repair. CleanPatch is a Canadian-made innovation that enables healthcare providers to safely and effectively maintain and repair their mattresses for hospital beds and stretchers. Repairing hospital mattresses in a hygienic and secure manner generates significant savings for healthcare facilities relative to the cost of premature mattress replacement.

“Hospital mattresses on beds and stretchers are in constant use; they are the workhorse of the healthcare facility. Until recently, healthcare facilities had two options when faced with damaged mattress surfaces - do nothing or replace the surface at significant cost. CleanPatch is a safe, simple and cost-effective solution that mitigates the risk to patients and staff of exposure or contamination through hospital mattresses,” comments Tony Abboud, Vice President, Business Development at Surface Medical.

As a medical surface repair product designed to restore mattresses and other soft surfaces to an intact and hygienic state, CleanPatch has benefitted from years of research and development in Canadian institutions, including an independent clinical assessment. In addition to being registered by Health Canada, CleanPatch has been recognized by Infection Control Today and Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality as a ground-breaking technology in the fight against healthcare acquired infections.

“As a procurement services organization, HealthPRO is delighted to work with Surface Medical in bringing this new and innovative healthcare product to market. HealthPRO is a strong supporter of facilitating the expansion and adoption of innovative new technologies more broadly across the healthcare sector. We see innovation as an opportunity to deliver enhanced, quality patient care while reducing the total cost to the healthcare system,” says Krista Stagliano, Vice President, Materials Management at HealthPRO.

“We are honored to work with HealthPRO and to provide CleanPatch to their members in order to deliver cost savings and superior patient care,” adds Tony Abboud.

SMI will be offering educational training and in-service opportunities to aid in the implementation of CleanPatch through a Mattress Inspection and Repair Program across various healthcare facilities. Implementation kits are available free with every ‘Box of 20’ purchased (Item #10001), which includes a user flipchart and Sharpie® to help track repairs. SMI will also be hosting an upcoming educational webinar to introduce HealthPRO members to CleanPatch on the following date:

- November 5th at 10:00 a.m. P.S.T. / 11:00 a.m. M.S.T. / 1:00 p.m. E.S.T.
